The sudden need to acquire a light-box takes over
Bitch!
This just came as a result of seeing one of the pictures clicked by Shreyas and put on her deviant art account that I happened to see through Priyankar's blog links...the funny creature on the left looked like the big building in that photograph and because it was broken, it looked like funny, broken teeth. but then i don't really know where the flying bitchy bitch came from n it gave a different perception to the whole picture...and I named it (proudly) 'bitching'!
Its about how we all are victims of listening to random things from random people and sometimes believeng them (but hey!sometimes they are true too!) and then spreading it all over to other random people ....(and notice the fish.,...they are the stinky extra 'masala' bits that get carried on every time it passes from one person to another..though I admit they are not the perfect metaphors...lol!
P.S.-Encouragement for the *extreme intensity in voice*conscious *uhh...extreme intensities off*efforts of changing the style will be highly appreciated...or any other feedback in that case.
At the Bank
My father happens to go to The Bank of India, Parliament Street quite often...and when he does, I'm usually dragged along...and while he does all the works and chit-chats with everybody around (he took VRS from the bank quite a few years back to devote himself to coaching cricket...so yea the people there 'know' him), I'm left gazing at the monotony, long queues, tension and the 'office-ness' of the environment, typical-ed with grey walls and glass counters and then after boring myself to death, when he is done, we push off to NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Corporation...u would wonder 'why', exactly we would do that but I'm talking about the little old food stalls that they've set up ...we get quite nice south indian food there...) or we chill at CP (connaught place...yes, the white horse-shoe shaped office Britishers left us that is now converted to a market...and its hot!).
But this time, I happened to be carrying my sketchbook with me. As effortless one-liner sketches filled up the last empty sheet of my sketchbook, I couldn't help but smile with contentment. So...guess who wasn't really bored; AND we went to NDMC; AND i hogged on some nice sausages when i got back home!
*sigh*
life's good...

Rickshaw Wala
The rickshaw wala. Standing all day in the scorching heat that spills over the hostile streets of Delhi. Waiting. For someone to be taken to a new place, so he could earn what can't even buy him a day's food. Traveler. Sweat dripping from his elbows as he rides his ride; a sheen on his skin. Looking for some shade to rest under. He exists, so do we. The difference is probably the only thing that needs to be given a thought.
The sketch shown here is a copied version of an older sketch of mine drawn while i was sitting on a rickshaw...drawn on cloth that covered a pad of some tuition in 12th standard of mine. A coat of black wax crayons under the thick red and blue paint coat. Then the paint scratched to reveal the form.

Penguins in the Battlefield
Funny as it may sound...whenever i open my refrigerator, a stack of plastic PearlPet bottles lie in the middle shelf and they constantly remind me of soldiers standing straight up ready for a battle...or penguins running around; doing their 'penguin walk'; swaying from side to side...
so here's a tribute to all them soldiers who keep getting exhausted and are repeatedly charged(.....er, filled with water) throughout the day...for days...and months...or more...but these bottles are new...so...whatever...
And yes...the wine bottle right next to them looks like its commanding the bottles to 'charge!'!!!
(The background was done with a purple wax crayon by keeping a cheese grater behind the sheet...hence the imprints...and then gone over with blue paint on it for resist effect...and then for some reason the wax crayon was scraped off to make the background look lighter...)

Sitting them T'y'res...

Pa
This is dad.
Sometimes, which is quiiiite sometimes, as I'm in my room, I'd hear a sound, faint at first and then growing...calling me...no points for guessing who it is as i drag myself to my parents' room and murmur an annoyed 'Yes?', he would be sitting ther...one leg straight up on the bed, the other one dangling off it;paunch oh-so-seemingly visible (look who is talking!).
'Please get me milk...not a whole glass, not half...just somewhere in between.'
'O(ooooh...)kay.'
(door closes)
(refrigerator opens)
(refrigerator closes)
(door opens...then shuts)
'There you go,pa.'
'Thank you....Jasjyot, please get me my ledger na...its in the bag lying outside in the lobby.'
'Yes, I shall.(!?!)'
after a while...
'Thank you...when do you plan to sleep?'
'No idea.'
'What do you mean by that? You need sleep. For when i wake you up in the morning for driving (lessons) you don't get up!'
'OK pa! I shall go to sleep.'
And then, as maa reads my dad watches television and does whatever he does with his ledger...and milk...and spectacles...and pen and....
...
(sigh)...I love my family...
(the silver and golden stickers look black...again...scanning constraints...)
Maa
This is her, so her it's not even funny. Before she is going to sleep she reads wearing that nightie of hers, and she keeps reading till pa can't take it any more and he starts getting grumpy(if he himself is sleeping, that is...) And this is exactly when i love sketching her. At that time she completely ignores dad, doesn't know where the world is(though she keeps cribbing at regular intervals how both her children,me being one of them, don't read...at all)...at that time its just she and her book(and her spectacles in between...).
So here is the woman caught in all her bed-time glory.
How i wish that the silver-ness and golden-ness of these type stickers could show through the scanner though...
Of wax and water!
About four days back, I was cleaning my bookshelf and sorting out all the books (and junk and cobwebs n...etc. etc.) that i needed (and yet again my mum didn't allow me to tear off each page of my Physics reference book to tiny bits and then throw them around in the end as I'd dance away to glory listening to LOUD music...it had been quite a dream of mine...trust me...(sniff!sniff!)) or atleast the ones that i thought i needed.Right in the middle of the process, I stumbled upon this book that had been rotting on the shelf for a long time, that me and mum got from the Delhi Book Fair a few years back. Its called 'Art Ideas' and had been one of my favorite pass-time-and-fool-around books...I couldn't help but open it up again...and it so happened that the first page that I opened was to do something with wax crayons...that immmmediately stuck a few neurotic chords up there and I ran to the nearest stationary store and got a pack of wax crayons and a few bottles of poster paint and life has been goo(ooooo)d since then...
here are a few random sketches i did with wax resist effect.
felt like rhyming a little, so here goes,
The golden woman
shining through
her troubles, baubles
she's baffled though
can't take no more
she won't look back
she keep goin' on
on the right track
she can't let go
she won't let go
she know no bound
she be screamin' out loud
and you know
she be holdin' em down
she the golden woman
she gonna shine through.
