Domestic Violence Reshaped.

This is the redone version of the illustration on 'domestic violence in rural India' for a publication project by NID for the Ministry of Welfare for Women and Children. The illustration stretches over a double spread, the black extending to the next page. I guess it works more than the previous illustration...I guess.

Violence Strikes.

This is an earlier version of an illustration I recently did on the subject of 'domestic violence in rural India'.
I do not know what fixation I have with using only black and white in almost all illustrations that I'm doing these days, I guess it is a phase...It is also kind of similar in terms of the composition to something that I did a while back that also happens to be up on the blog in a previous entry and I refuse to disclose which one it is...hehe.
All feedback welcome. Have a good day!

IllustrationFriday : Celebrate/ Happy birthday Ma!

A very appropriate topic for the week.
A very happy valentine's day to all and more importantly...a verry verrry happy haapy birthday to Mommy.
I'm guessing you got it but if you didn't, the lower image is an attempt to do a caricature of my mother.
So much that happened as we grew one more year older... I wish I was at home and out of this hostel for today... and that Devika(my lovvly sister) was still in Delhi (she shifted to Chennai recently) ...Ah! And I miss the chocolate cake. Miss you all.
Love. .Peace. .Happy.

Eruptions and more...

This is for a 'Comic Book Workshop' in which we had to come up with a 10 page- comic, two out of which are here...However for a course in 'Screen Printing', these were the only two pages that I took forward for printing on fabric to create surfaces as prints. The comic, My comic is named 'Eruptions', as you might see why...the pages are not in order, the first one that you see is actually the 2nd page and the second one the 5th page in the actual comic book. All feedback welcome because this is my first attempt in building a narrative in panels.
Have a good day!

Travelling Blues
I was on my way back from home (Delhi) back to college (Gujarat)...I don't know if its just me but I really didn't want to come back this time. It was cold and very verry early in the morning and celebration had suppressed the desire to sleep. So there I was, with my tummy feeling weird, wanting to pee, out in the cold, waiting in a looooong queue for the ticket to get printed. The rest is in the scratchy illustration right above this that I drew in the airport later.

Illustration Friday : Clandestine

I guess I know what the word 'clandestine' means...I don't know if this is clandestine enough though. Its got a little story.
Sniffly elf worked in santa's factory all day making little toys. He was tired and depressed. 'And wretched Santa takes all the credit anyway. U N F A I R !' he said to himself. And just when life couldn't get worse, he realised there were these nasty deep, dark pits under his eyes. 'O h m y g o o d y g o o d n e s s !', he exclaimed. Shocked and in despair, little sniffly quickly took out his 'magical-super-effectively-cool under eye concoction' and started squeezing it out. Thats not quite when he would expect Santa to happily come calling for him...
The rest in the illustration.
A very happy new year to all!

Of spirituality, Lotuses and Bills

This post brings with it a lottttt of emotion and procrastination. I made this during Durga Puja when I was in a very specifically different mindset and was also going through so many emotions that it ended up coming out in this. In my mind I questioned faith and how it exists and manifests itself in the forms that it does. And also its absurdly developed relationship with wealth. I guess I partially got my answer and hence ended up putting up this post.
Have a good day.

Illustration Friday : Balloon

Illustration Friday's this week's topic - Balloon.
All that the wrathful nightmare did;
All the horrible words it uttered;
For her it was mere 'blah-bleh-blah-bleh';
For she did didn't understand, and couldn't bother;
A pencil in one hand, a paintbrush in another;
She set her mind working, drawing strings and filling color;
The poor nightmare yelled out like a buffoon;
And the girl got a handful of balloons!
